WRITTEN AT A DANCE
April 20, 2020
POET-IN-RESIDENT AT RICE HOUSE
DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA MAY, 1995
Watching young women dancing
Reminds me of the time
I was thin and danced
with Thorn Sparkman
winning contests.
What happened?
Woke up covered with fat -
Buried under pounds XX Sizes.
Now, I'm digging out
Rice my shovel,
Walking the snow plow.
That thin Sally will return.
