WHAT WILL A SCIENTIFIC MIND DO TO ME?

May 19, 2020

Early Poems to Read Christmas Eve
Written at a Dixieland Nightclub

Prune emotions -
To minute size?
Trite as suburban lawns
Cramped as violets?
Stiff as orchids.
How pruned? -
As a forest
With tall trees
And bushes too? -
Melodic as a fish pond?
How deep -
Fathomable?

Let me live
As a meadow lives
With its own balance.
Let the winds blow through
And stay and
Play with the grasses
That aren't too plucked.

Let my mind be a home
For the birds of ideas
And inspiration to perch and sing.
Yet, let it not be so wild
As to keep travelers out
And seekers of peace.
For I want to be a home
For them.
This I say in a plea,
"Preserve my natural resources."
