What do I do

April 24, 2020

Dedicated to Milton, my friend, who gave me the confidence to put this out.

What do I do with my flapping needs -
tuck them away
yes, cut them away
suffocate them
to be forgotten?
But, needs are alive
They are part of me
They can not be forgotten
to die.
You pour water on them
nourishing them to expand
Then you blow cold air
and frost and snow.
They shiver and scream but do not die.
My needs live in me
Alive - painfully alive
But I can't tell you of the agony.
I can only tell the paper
and my dog and my room.
Oh Hell, it is awful to be me
Just a jumbled mass of needs
Forever ticking and gnawing.
