Now It Is Just Me
June 4, 2020
In My Mother's Lap
pandemic poetry
My life is usually spent
connected with others
either in a crowd
or on a one-to-one.
People inspire me
and teach me
and coach me
and point out
interesting sights.
Now it is just me
Alone
No one to eat with
No one to walk side by side with.
I’m finding it hard
to get along with myself.
I nag at myself
what I should have done
but didn’t do.
I get tired more easily
by myself.
I need stimulation of others.
Left alone,
I coil into my own dark cellar
Ghosts from the past return.
