My lover's coat hangs in the closet.
I don't know
for how long it will hang there,
but it is there now.
His glasses and current crossword puzzle
poised where he left them
when he got tired and went to bed.
My love so able to unpack the tent
of his being
and truly be in a place
then pull up stakes and leave.
I also see other relics from my past
that have survived the currents of time.
I never knew then they would
still be with me
and what I had thought
would be forever has vanished.
So right now, my lover's coat hangs in my closet. He is asleep.
His glasses are here.
It is very wonderful and beautiful
and gives me great peace
to have him here.
Somehow, I have to accept
his coat may not always
hang in my closet.

Somehow, I need to enjoy
and then be able to let go
as wrenchingly painful
to let the tide of change
come and wash away our
beautiful sand castle.
