My love is tall and lean
His hair lies flat
So does his tie.
My love is tidy -very tidy
Always.
I have a lot of papers
and feelings
which are not tidy.
Sometimes my feelings
flood my seams
and he steps back
so as not to get his feet wet.
My love would like me to be tidy
and always contained in a small space
but I can't always.
He has removed himself from me
and that makes me weep.
I miss his neat relics,
I miss their color and essence of him.
He is across town
where he can hang up on me
when he wants to.

My love is rejecting me.
He is pulling into himself
and away from me.
How to get in step
with his backing off.
I love him.
The dance has changed
from cheek to cheek
to the Charleston.
He is clapping his hands
as his steps go away
from me.
I hope the music will change
and he'll hold me in his arms
