My love's doctor says
he shouldn't need me.
It's awful to hear him
talk that way.
He does need my love.
It's just words and theory
to say he doesn't.
But Peter is adjustable
and will settle with not much.
He will obey Molly and deny himself
for what she says.
I want to love Peter
and be cozy with him
and we could relax
but he is trying to find relaxation
in a place that has made
him feel inadequate for years.
My doctor says
these feelings of self-esteem
can't be sustained without me.
I wish Peter could hear that
from him.
Or from someone else beside me.
I miss Peter.
