I remember as a child
the specialness of best friends,
Of spending the night at a classmate's,
the closeness
lying in bed intent on
Friday night radio mystery programs.
Do children nowadays
have that watching TV?
I wonder.
Seems to me, the concentration needed
for the radio is lost today
when the picture and color
hand it all to you.

I remember my friend's mother
coming in to kiss us goodnight
and my friend hoping maybe she'll
Think I'm her sister
because my hair is black.

I'll miss that sharing as an adult,
age doesn't bring that coziness.
