I have a hole in my heart;
a vast deep hole.
I wish I could darn the sides together
with invisible stitches.
The hole, so cavernous,
echoes through me
with painful vibrations.

I try and stuff the hole up
with food, work and action,
but it is there waiting
too often.
How to mend, smooth
and proceed.

My heart is wearing a cast;
heavy and cumbersome.
It feels as though lots of splinters
are in it.

I try and solve it
with warm thoughts
and first-aid gentleness.
There is a vast hole in my heart
that doesn't seem to be healing.
