For nine years
you have walked
by me
and stood by me
during the ordinary
and sharing my
spotlight – over and over.
There have been other men
with whom we’ve danced
across the dance floor
and won prizes
but when it comes to daily living,
they were not there.
Or some have
taken me out
to tasty dinners
or shows
but they have gone.
Now I find delight
in having a friend.
Waiting with me
at Walgreens
or waiting in the doctors waiting rooms.
