Eight years ago I saw dark eyes
on the subway in Queens –
The eyes belonged to a middle aged kid
say around eight.
Those eyes
would be on a sixteen year old now.
I look for them,
but eyes are listening to ipods
and conversation on cell phones.
I miss those eyes of eight years ago.
